Salk is a wonderful school with a welcoming and well thought out learning enviornment. When I first toured the school, I was struck with how happy and relaxed the students seemed. We're delighted that our son is at Salk. The teachers are responsive, the curriculum encourages creative thinking and problem solving, and the envviornment stresses collaboration and the joy of learning. Although the school stresses science, drama, technology, the arts, and sports are also a part of a very enriched curriculum.

this is a great school where you are constantly challenged and learn something new and interesting every day! The teachers, especially in 7th grade, are excellent and are always open to hearing your ideas and there to help you! It's awesome!

The work at salk was intensive and exciting. The small size of the school guarantees that each student will find time to talk to any teacher when they wish. There were also plenty of activities to entertain the students such as movie day. As a graduate of class of '06 who has revisited the school many times since, I can vouch for the continuous and visible improvements to the school.

this school is a great school if you're looking for a tight, small community for you child. In this school everyone knows everyone and if you ever have trouble with anything there is an abundantly of teachers there to help. The thing Salk is lacking though is an adamant sport abundance and music.

I am a allumi to The Salk School Of Science. I graduated from there 5 years ago. The small population of students at the school help students feel like individuals and help the students get the individual attention they need.

Sound academic programs, including art and physical education. 8th grade science and humanities were taught well. Infusion from NYU MD/PhD programs a plus. Principal and staff superb. No accelerated classes/Regents available however.

My son is in the 8th grade at Salk, and attending this school has been a great experience for him and for us. Each class has around 25 students - small for NYC middle school, and the teachers really connect to the students. Students call teachers by their first names, everyone knows each other in the school, and students see their teachers as resources. While the work is challenging, teachers make themselves available to help students who don't get it. Also, the kids are not overwhelmed with too much homework. While there is no music, their is an art program. Kids play sports during gym, while track and basketball teams play other schools during the season. Salk also has clubs on Wednesdays during the school days. Clubs range from chess to analyzing Hitchcock films, so there really is something for everyone. Parents are welcome to drop by the school.

This school offers a very intimate setting, all students are known by the principal by name. The school is lacking music and the sports are minimal. Since the science and math teachers are the same it can be great or awful. All in all it is a warm atmosphere.
